Entebbe wildlife conservation Education centre was established in 1952 for wild animals that were causalities or injured or orphans, but later in 1960 its role changed into a zoo with other non-indigenous species like tigers which were not allowed until in 1994 when it was taken over by Uganda wildlife education centre to act as a conservation centre for wild animals. The role of wildlife conservation centre is to conserve wildlife for future and rehabilitate them and there are number of animals and these include zebras, giraffes, elephants, among others. The zoo sits on a land which is 72 acres in size

Entebbe zoo has  many interesting wildlife species and attractions for visitors to see and some of the animals found at the zoo they are the big five animals and these animals include zebras, cheetahs, monkeys, chimpanzee, lions, elephants, giraffe, and also it a home to birds like peacocks, shoebill stork, ostriches and parrots then also reptiles like snakes, crocodiles and things like the tortoises.

As wildlife conservation education centre, Entebbe Zoo receive frequent visitors because it is the only place where you can see the wildlife from in one place and most visitors are local visitors and students from nursery to higher institutions and after looking at the animals if they are children, they can have fun at the bouncing castles swings and others that are found their.

The zoo opens at 8am to 6pm and it is open every day of the week but it is better you visit early in the morning or evening this when they are being feed so if you are interested in seeing that activity those are the hours you should the zoo.

Behind the scenes experience and tour

This is a special experience for those who love wildlife. During this experience, visitors get a chance to interact with different animals and closer range. This activity allows you to enter the enclosures, feeding the animals. This activity is only for mature people kids are not allowed to do  it, the behind the scene has three variations and these include the keepers guide tour and during this experience visitors are assigned to specific zoo keeper to guide them, keeper for a day experience this experience is more extensive and during this activity visitors do what care takers do like feeding ,preparing animal food, observing their mood and many more, the vet for the day experience, this experience is suitable for those who are interested in learning about how animals are kept health and how they tell if they are sick with the help of the vet doctor.

Other things to do while at the zoo

Guided tour

It is the most popular activity at Entebbe wildlife conservation education centre.it is a bit hard to explore the zoo without a guide, though this tour does not involve entering the animal enclosures or get close contact with the animals.

Chimpanzee close up experience

The chimpanzee were the first animals to be introduced at the Entebbe Zoo, and the most interesting and great chimpanzee to stay at the zoo was Zakayo, but it later died at the age of 56, every visitor who came to the zoo would not leave before seeing it because of its size.

Riding donkeys and camels

This activity is popular with children and families because it is interesting if you are like a group riding together.

Volunteering

The Entebbe Zoo accepts volunteers from every part of the world and it normally spends one week. This volunteer programme is designed to offer participants on experience of working closely with animals at the zoo, in order to be accepted you have to be immunised against yellow fever, measles, tuberculosis because one will be in close in animals and if you are sick animals may catch your diseases.

Bird watching

To every bird watcher, Uganda is a paradise. The zoo offers great opportunities for the bird watchers to see rare birds like shoebill, peacock, parrots, and listen to the chirping of the coloured feathered companions.

Forest trial and bird watching

 The zoo is located in in an area with remarkable scenery and over 1km un touched forest. After visiting the animals one can decide to go for the nature walks long the forest and you will be to see things like butterflies, chameleons, birds and plants the walk in this forest can take 1 to 2 hours.

Donations

The easiest way to support the work of Uganda wildlife education centre is to pay a visit and when a visitor pays entrance fee you are indirectly supporting, the other way is by sporing the one of the animals in the zoo which is known as animal parents’ program those are the ways how one can support and donate.

Where to sleep when you at Entebbe Zoo

Uganda wildlife conservation education centre has accommodation facilities within its premises and they are typically African Bandas which a self-contained, with restaurant in but it closes at 6pm so it is advisable to get your dinner before 6pm in case you are to spend a night at those premises.
