This 10 Days Rwanda gorilla trek and Kenya safari takes you through Rwanda’s renowned Volcanoes and Nyungwe national parks, where you will have an opportunity to embark on gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking experiences. This safari also extends to Kenya, where you will be exploring unique wildlife in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and also conclude your safari with a coffee tour at Kiambu Coffee Farm. Detailed Itinerary for 10 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek and Kenya Safari.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our company representative. After a brief meet and greet, you will be driven to your hotel for check-in and a short briefing on your safari.
Day 2: Kigali City Tour and Visit King’s Palace Nyanza & Butare National Museum
After having your breakfast, set off for a tour to the Kigali Genocide Memorial center and then head off to visit the former King’s palace in Nyanza and the National Museum in Butare. Get a chance to see the famous Inyambo long-horned cattle and learn more about Rwanda’s interesting cultural heritage.
Later return to Kigali, and depending on your time of arrival, you can visit the craft market as well as the Kimironko market. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park- Stopover at the Twin Lakes
After having breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, you will start your journey to Volcanoes National Park. You will have a stopover at the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, where you will get to have a 360 view of the lakes and some surrounding mountain summits in the Virunga massif.
Later, drive to your lodge for lunch and relax for the rest of your evening. If you still wish to explore more, you can do an optional tour of Musanze caves or visit the Diane Fossey museum at Karisoke. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
You will enjoy an early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for a briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00 am. After the briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas.
However, the guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and relax. In the evening, you can do a community tour at Iby’iwacu village for a Rwanda cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe- Zip Line Experience
Breakfast will be served early, and you will embark on the drive to Nyungwe forest national park, where, upon your arrival, you will embark on a zip line experience. Experience the thrilling adventure as you explore the park’s beautiful scenery and wildlife, including primates. Nyungwe Park has 3 zip line levels, and you can choose which one to explore based on your preference. You will have lunch before driving to your lodge and relax for the rest of your evening. Dinner will be served at your accommodation.
Day 6: Chimpanzee tracking and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3-6 hours or more, depending on their location. Have your packed lunch and then head back to base.
Later, you will also engage in a canopy walk and enjoy views of the rainforest from a swing bridge. After the canopy walk, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Flight to Nairobi- Visit the Giraffe Center
After breakfast at your lodge, you will proceed to Kigali for your flight to Nairobi. Your guide in Nairobi will welcome you, brief you about your safari. You will get to visit the Giraffe Center in Nairobi, where you will get to feed the giraffes up close. Have lunch at a restaurant and then drive to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Transfer to Maasai Mara National Park
You will be picked up by your guide, who will meet you and welcome you, and brief you about your safari. After the briefing, you will proceed to the Maasai Mara National Reserve with a stop in Narok town for a cultural visit to the famed Maasai Bomas, where you will get to interact with the lovely Maasai people and learn more about their beautiful culture.
You will proceed to Maasai Mara National Reserve for an evening game drive where you will search for the various wildlife species, such as a large concentration of predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and impalas, among others. After the game drive, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Full day game drives in Maasai Mara
You will have an early breakfast at your lodge ahead of a full day of wildlife viewing. After breakfast, you will drive around the Maasai Mara National Reserve, where you will search for various wildlife species such as wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, impalas, gazelles, giraffes, waterbucks, and hippos, among others.
After lunch, you will engage in another game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve as you search for the different wildlife species and later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight as above.
Meal Plan: Full Board
Day 10: Transfer Back to Nairobi- stopover at Kiambu Coffee Farm
After your breakfast, bid farewell to the Maasai Mara and head back to Nairobi city with a stopover at the Kiambu coffee farm for a tour of the coffee plantations, where you will be taken through the coffee-making process, right from picking cherries to washing, drying, and processing the coffee beans into fine coffee powder for packaging and exportation. Grab yourself some bags of coffee as a souvenir for yourself and loved ones back home. Have lunch and proceed with your drive to Nairobi, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
