Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park-Sunset Boat Cruise
On day one of your 3 days Akagera Safari and Volcanoes gorilla trekking tour, pick up from your hotel in Kigali and drive to Akagera National Park. It’s about a 2-3-hour drive from Kigali to Akagera National Park. Upon your arrival in the park, you will embark on a game drive in the southern part of the park. Look out for wildlife such as lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, and buffalo, among others.
Lunch will be served at your lodge, and later in the evening, you will head out for a sunset boat ride on Lake Ihema, where you will get to see hippos, crocodiles, and other animals roaming along the lake shores.
Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Transfer Back to Kigali
On the second day of your 3 days Akagera safari and Volcanoes gorilla trekking tour, you will have breakfast at your lodge and then meet your safari guide. Head out for a morning game drive in the northern part of the park as you exit. The northern circuit of Akagera National Park is famed for its abundant wildlife numbers ranging from rhinos, elephants, zebras, giraffes, antelopes and not forgetting the Big Cats like the lion and elusive leopard.
Proceed with your drive back to Kigali with a stopover for lunch en route. Upon your arrival in Kigali later in the afternoon, you will be dropped off at your hotel, where you will get refreshed and later have dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes for Gorilla Trekking and Back to Kigali
Have you breakfast very early in the morning and set off for Volcanoes National Park at around 4:30 am for your gorilla trekking experience. It’s about a 3-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, and upon your arrival at the park’s briefing point by 7 am, you will register and receive a briefing from the park ranger.
After your briefing, begin your hike into the forest in search of your gorilla family. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park can take between 1-6 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Once you have located your gorilla group, you will be given an hour to spend with the gorillas before heading back to base, where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. Have lunch and then transfer back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at a hotel or airport for your onward flight back home.
