Day 1: Travel to Virunga
Our safari guide will be on wait as your plane touches down at Kigali International Airport. You will begin road travel northwest, ascend the Virunga volcanic mountains region and enter DR Congo through Gisenyi. You will travel on dirt road system to Goma and onto your safari lodge in Virunga National Park. Relax and make final preparations for the Nyiragongo hike.
Day 2: Nyiragongo hiking
Take breakfast at sunrise and travel to Kibati Village where the hike starts. A team of rangers leads you into the highlands; you will wander in the wilderness and explore a virgin destination not diluted with any impurities. The 4-5hour climb soon gets you to the summit of Nyiragongo volcano with a boiling lava lake bare before your eyes. The peak of hiking adventure however is in the darkness of the night when the burning lava lake illuminates the skies with rainbow of colors. It is pure magic at the summit of Nyiragongo volcanic mountains.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo
The descent from the Nyiragongo volcanoes starts shortly after breakfast. The walk is slow because volcanic rocks are slippery. Explore the wilderness and appreciate nature in its original settings. You will reunite with your safari guide and begin travel back to Kigali City for your outbound flight.
