Garumba National Park

Garamba National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Africa, the park was gazetted in 1938 covering an area of approximately 4, 920 square kilometers. The park was cleared as a UNSECO World’s Heritage sites located in the north eastern park of the democratic republic of Congo bordering South Sudan. The park is largely covered by the grasslands, savannah and woodlands. Garumba national park is part of the Sudano- Guinean savanna zone one of the most amazing ecological zones on the world. The park is home to the white rhinoceros, elephant, giraffe, and hippopotamus; the “big four” mammals and houses over 286 specious of birds. The parks provide refuge to the endemic subspecies of the Congolese giraffe, last remaining populations of the northern white rhinoceros, and the mixed population of forest elephants and bush elephants. It also home to the purely savannah lion species, the spotted hyena, many antelopes, bongo, hogs, chimpanzee, and the small diurnal primates. The Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation manages the National Park.
