Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park is a hidden gem found in Tanzania, located about 120 kilometres from Arusha. Tarangire is a unique park compared to other parks. It is found in the northern circuit, composed of open plains, but as you move south, the area becomes swampy with some trees and open plains. The centre of the park is dominated by the Tarangire River.
One of the things that makes Tarangire famous is the number of Elephants found in this park. Tarangire has the highest elephant concentration in Tanzania. Tarangire National Park was named after the River Tarangire. During the dry season, animals gather near the Tarangire River to get water, and also this river attracts animals from other places and this making it an excellent spot for wildlife viewing.
Apart from Elephants, you can also see lions, leopards, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, gazelles and also Tarangire has 500 species of birds with different colours and sounds.
Bird lovers find Tarangire a paradise. Some common sightings include Hornbill, yellow coloured lover birds, Guinea fowl, Kori bustards, Brow parrots, Bateleurs eagles, Winged nightjars, Striped swallows and many more
Tarangire is quieter compared to the famous Serengeti. Always less crowded, as well as its rich ecosystem, the rolling hills and river valleys offer diverse habitats that sustain a wide variety of wildlife throughout the year.

My experience when I visited Tarangire
Despite being an African, going on safari has never felt the same. Visiting Tarangire felt like I had just entered another world from the busy city life I’m used to. The weather was perfect. I started my journey in the morning, all excited to see the natural beauty of the park and wildlife.
Right away, I was amazed by how the park was and how alive everything seemed. We passed the Tarangire River, filled with fish and various species. I saw an elephant resting under the baobab trees. Every time I spotted lions or leopards, I felt like screaming with excitement. Watching giraffes feeding on tall trees was breathtaking.
I also enjoyed bird watching; the park is home to many different species flying freely in the sky. It was a great opportunity to learn about animals and nature at large. I felt indescribable joy being so close to nature and these incredible animals.
At noon, we took a break under the shade of the baobab trees, eating lunch, sharing stories while planning for our next day adventure.
