5 Days Nyiragongo Hike & Double Gorilla Trekking
5 Days nyiragongo hike & double gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park Congo. On this Safari, we explore the most active volcano in Africa and go up to its summit where we shall see the largest Lava Lake in the world. In this same expedition, we shall come close with the endangered mountain gorillas that are limited to this place, Uganda and Rwanda. You are going to explore this remote country but the experience is five stars.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to the Mikeno Lodge at Rumangabo
Our guide will meet you at the airport and then transfer you to the lodge. The drive time is about 4 hours to Virunga national park minus the time you spend at the border. You will have several stop overs depending on your interests like the genocide memorials and other museums. The journeys to Virunga will take you through magnificent sceneries and landscape, the natural setting and welcoming people.
Stay at Mikeno Lodge or Bukima Tented Camp. FB
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park
After breakfast, your guide will take you to the park headquarters for briefing and here you will be divided into groups and you will head off for this much waited adventure. The trek will take you about 2 hours and then you will spend another hour with the gorillas.
You will head back to the lodge for lunch and after lunch you will be taken for a community walk were you will have a chance to interact with the local and learn more about the Congolese culture. After, you can then return back to your lodge for the late meal and leisure. FB
Day 3: Gorilla tracking tracking
Today we track the endangered mountain gorillas again. We go on this adventure once again.
Day 4: Hike the Nyiragongo Volcano
Breakfast will be served at 6.30am and you will meet up with the park rangers at the park headquarters to get a briefing before you head off for the hike. Hiking starts at a round 10am and its take about 6 hours to reach the summit. You will meet a lot of tree species and other wild life. If you are a bird watcher brace yourself because you will enjoy this. You will spend the night in the tents on the edge of the huge crater.
Day 5: Descend from Nyiragongo Volcano and transfer to Kigali
Today you will descent to the bottom of the mountain after your breakfast, this is usually faster than the hike and when you get to the Kibat station, and your guide will be waiting for you for a transfer back to Kigali and then your flight home.
