6 Days Nyiragongo, Mountain Gorillas & Tchegera

This amazing 6 days Nyiragongo, Mountain gorilla and tchegera safari brings the best of the gorilla trekking in virunga national park, hike to nyiragongo mountain and finally a trip to tchegera island.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Goma

Our guide will meet you at the airport and then transfer you to the lodge. The drive time is about 4 hours to Virunga national park minus the time you spend at the border. You will have several stop overs depending on your interests like the genocide memorials and other museums. The journeys to Virunga will take you through magnificent sceneries and landscape, the natural setting and welcoming people. Stay at Mikeno Lodge or Bukima Tented Camp. FB

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park

After breakfast, your guide will take you to the park headquarters for briefing and here you will be divided into groups and you will head off for this much waited adventure. The trek will take you about 2 hours and then you will spend another hour with the gorillas.

You will head back to the lodge for lunch and after lunch you will be taken for a community walk were you will have a chance to interact with the local and learn more about the Congolese culture. After, you can then return back to your lodge for the late meal and leisure. FB

Day 3: Hike the Nyiragongo Volcano

Early morning breakfast today and we shall head to Kibat station where the hike to Nyiragongo begins. Here you will be brief and you will set off at around 10am. The hike to the summit usually takes about 6 hours depending on your energy levels. The hike is a bit tiring and hot at times since this is a volcanic mountain. At the summit you will enjoy good scenery of the lava lake and relax at the top of this volcano, the bird count here is rewarding. You will spend the night in the tents on the edge of the huge crater.

Day 4: Descend from Nyiragongo Volcano and transfer to Tchegera

Today you will descent to the bottom of the mountain after your breakfast, this is usually faster than the hike and when you get to the Kibat station, and your guide will be waiting for you for a transfer back to Tchegera. Stay at tchegera Island Camp. FB

Day 5: Explore Tchegera

The tented camp offers spectacular views of the lake and four volcanoes. On clear nights, Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes add to the drama by turning the night sky red with their glowing lava. There is also an abundance of birdlife on the island. You can choose to relax on the beach or explore other parts of the island in a sea kayak or by paddleboard. Stay at tchegera Island Camp. FB

Day 6: Departure

The guide will drive you back to Kigali to catch you flight back home. Of course there are lots of activities you can do on your way home depending on the time of your flight.
